So it’s the moment we’ve all been dreading. My last day as a student worker in the Students First Center. It was cool having my own little site to update and share my thoughts about UCM with you! I hope I was able to help you to a certain degree. This is my 2nd to last post. I want to properly introduce you all to the other student workers you can follow while I’m away dealing with the tough Financial Aid questions lol but it was really nice getting to know you all and I wish you much success in the future! You are all bright shining stars in the world :)

YAY!!!! It’s been such a pleasure working in the Students First Center for the past year and a few months as a student worker and now I have the opportunity to be a full-time staff member! UC Merced has been BEYOND good to me these past 5 years and it is a great honor and pleasure to be able to say I work for this fine institution doing what I do best…helping people! Here at the SFC our mission to help the students and I am thrilled to say I am joining this great staff in that mission! They were a great help to me throughout the years and I am excited to say that I can now be the one to help you all in a bigger capacity! This awesome good news does come with sad news as well though. As of this coming Friday I will no longer be a student worker and therefore I will no longer be sharing with you my perspectives on this site nor my twitter account @vkempsfc. It has been great talking to you and helping all of you and I wish you the best this year and years to come! I’m moving on up to the big seats and I’m overjoyed that I’ve been given this opportunity! I will miss all of you and have a GREAT first day of school tomorrow!! :)

It’s almost the first day of school again and for the first time in all of my life (that I remember) it won’t be for me. No school for me this year! It feels good to say that lol I’m officially taking a break from exams and studying and all that jazz to just work at my new job! Announcement about that coming soon! But anywho enjoy fall semester everyone!! I’m sure it’ll be a blast :)

UC Merced’s Office of Alumni Relations is looking for UC Merced models!

This Thursday August 9th, we’ll be shooting photos for UC Merced promotional materials and are looking for students who are interested in being the face of UC Merced. We will meet at 8:30am inside the Lantern, Kolligian Library and head outside to a few different photo shoot locations.

All interested students should wear UC Merced attire and invite your friends!

Photos will be taken with UC Merced celebrity guest — the Bobcat!

As 1900 new students descend on UC Merced this August, we’re looking for volunteers to help us keep
this new group from getting too lost during our second annual

ASCEND New Student Success Conference
on Tuesday, August 21 from 9 - 4 p.m.
AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Volunteer opportunities still available for the ASCEND conference! Greatest need is the first shift (8:00 to 10:00am) and in the afternoon (12:45 to 3:00 pm).

Faculty, staff, and student volunteers are needed to assist with the following volunteer responsibilities:
* staffing the registration table
* serving as floor guides
* collecting lunch tickets
A variety of shifts are available to fit every schedule (8:00 - 10 a.m., 9:45 - 11 a.m., 10:45 - Noon, 11:45 - 1 p.m., 12:45 - 2 p.m., 1:45 - 3 p.m. and 2:45 - 4 p.m.), and volunteers are encouraged to sign up for more than one hourly slot, if you’re able.In thanks and appreciation, all volunteers will receive a complimentary lunch for their time.

Interested in helping out? Please submit your availability to Anne DiCarlo at adicarlo@ucmerced.edu by Friday, August 10.

This conference offers all incoming freshman and new transfer students an opportunity to learn about essential academic skills, university expectations, and campus resources. So Tuesday I was unexpectedly attacked by a stomach bug and I’ve been out of commission the past 2 days. It was TERRIBLE! I hate being sick & I hate missing work because I’m sick lol but it’s not good for the office environment to pass around germs so it was definitely a good thing that I went home lol I’M BACK though and feeling much better! Taking care of your body is so important. Especially during the hot dry summers of Merced. Stay hydrated and stay healthy my friends!

The CatCard Office is pleased to announce a suite of new online services available through the newly updated ePay portal. These services were developed to make managing your CatCard account easier and more secure. Newly offered services include:

· Immediately deactivate your lost or stolen CatCard ID through ePay in just a few clicks. It is the fastest way to protect your account in the event your card is misplaced.

· Check your transaction history for all CatCard plans since the date of your first transaction in a simple view.

· Check your plan balances and add funds to plans easily within the application.

· Your current CatCard photo and ID number are displayed each time you login.

In addition to new services provided through ePay, the CatCard Office is also pleased to announce several other new initiatives:

· Submit Your Own CatCard photo. An “Online Photo submission” guideline is now available at https://catcard.ucmerced.edu. This program is intended for new or incoming students; however, current students, faculty and staff may submit a photo and pay $20 for a replacement card.

· Knowing who attended your event just got easier. CatCard’sCS Pocketreader is now available for rental/lease through the CatCard Office. The Pocketreader is a wireless portable card reader, ideal for attendance tracking, permit/deny activity, privilege verification transactions and indoor or outdoor events and can be used in online or offline mode.
